WELLINGTON ON TOUR

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ■ TIMARU, 12th September. The Wellington Rugby team opened their South Island tour here to-day, when they defeated South Canterbury by 28 points to 17. The weather was ideal, but the ground was very hard. Taken all round, the game was a very poor exhibition, the visitors being superior in all departments. Tries for the winners were scored by Shearer (2), Elliott (2), M'Pherson, Graham, and Sly; Heazlewood converted two, and kicked a penalty goal. For the losers, tries were secured by Stevenson (2) and Trotter; Halstead converted two and kicked a field goal.
