TRACK WORK AT WANCANUI (Special to "The Evening Post") WANG ANUI, 10th September. Boisterous weather ruled on Saturday afternoon and all day on Sunday at Wanganui. By the time the latecomers had finished work after breakfast a glorious spring morning ruled, giving every indication that ideal conditions would prevail for the mooting this week. Baskier and Catkin were the earliest workers, and they were associated in a gallop over six furlongs, at the end of which Catkin was well in front of his companion and doing it nicely. Roman Lake and Air Laddie, a couple of forward two-year-olds, wero companions in a sprint up the straight, and timed from the two-furlong peg they cut out the quarter in 27sec, with^ Air Laddie going along perhaps the better of the pair. It was a pleasing effort on his part. Taliskcr and Banket went once round at half pace, and then increased the rate to three-quarter pace over a second circuit, both Sitting out freely. Banket is down to contest the Durifl Hack on Thursday. Franeolin and Dresden China sprinted up the straight, both hitting out well. The former made friends for her Debutante Stakes engagement on Saturday. Full Feather and Quarter Deck slipped over six furlongs, the last five being left behind in linin 7sec, and though Quarter Deck was a little in front at'-the finish his companion was full o.f. running. It is the first real bit of work the pair have- (lone since their arrival, but track-watchers, will await their appearance to-morrow morning with. eager expectation. Full Feather and Quarter Deck will, of course, be ridden in their engagements by F. E. Jones. Swoopalong, from the same stable as the previous pair, covered, five furlongs in lniin 7sce also, moving nicely. So far no lightweight rider has been announced for the March Along—Brown Oivl filly. . A large number of others, including Mask, Episode, Ceremony, Alloy, Auriculus, Mauriaena, Salt Petrel, and Tfeo Warden/ and several visitors, got through work of a useful order. After breakfast operations consisted in the main of pace work of varying degrees, it being in the nature of au "off" morning. On the hurdle track Praeda and Lady's Boy, separately, did good pace work,-while Kiosk was feeling for his head in a couple of rounds with a lightweight up. He looks improved by his race at Marton, and another outing should see him ready to give a good account of himself. He will be ridden by B. H. Morris in the Flying Handicap on Thursday, while oil Saturday, in the Eclipse Stakes, he will have the services of E. A. Keesing as pilot. Knightlike did three-quarter pace work on No. 2 track, moving nicely, while Star Stranger struck out freely in a couple of rounds at a similar pace, covering the last six furlongs in lmin 26sec. They will be ridden by Roy Reed in their engagements at the meeting, as also will Hunting Day, who was worked on the hurdle track. Lysander struck out bodly with his trainer in the saddle on a couple of circuits of the plough, pulling hard all-the ■way. When the Absurd horse is readyhe will show to better advantage than he did in his engagements last season, which is usually a hard one on four-Year-olds. By the way/ Walter Kayner intends leaving for the Avondale Meeting on (Monday next,- on which day. there will be a general exodus from Wanganui for various destinations. Valkon struck out well in a couple of circuits, and looks well for his Marangi Handicap engagements, though a couple more races will work wonders with the Valkyrian gelding. Gaze got through the task allotted him in pleasing style, but when walking round afterwards showed signs of lameness, the trouble being located apparently in the off fore shoulder. J. Hastie arrived to-day with Moutoa Treasury and Holus Boliis. Among those duo here on Wednesday arc Pine with four, Johnson and George from New Plymouth, Jackson, Fryer, and Conway from Hawera.
