The performances of the selected athletes at the South African championships and the Olympic trials wore: — Atkinson won 120 yards hurdles in 15 2:ss£C, second in long jump; Miss Clarke, second in 100 yards and 220 yards ladies ' events, the times for which were 12see and 27 3-ssec respectively, first in high^ump (sft ljin) and first in 100 yards hurdles (15 2-ssee); Bur-ton-Durham, third in 100 yards and 220 yards; Hart, won shot putt (43ft 4in), javelin (152 ft), discus (96ft 2iin), and hammer (89ft 6in); Jacobs, first in one mile (4min 33 2-osee), second in four miles; Kinsman, second in 220 yards; Legg, won 100 yards in 10 1-5 iiec and 221) yards in 22 2-sseej Loubser, won 440 yards in 50 3-ssec, second in 880 yards, the time for which was lmin 57 4-ssec; Piennar, second in 440 yards and in shot putt; Viljoen, woil high jump (sft 9sin), tied for first place in pole vault (9ft Bin), second in 100 yards and" third in 120 yards hurdles; Walters, third in 440 yards; Grant, won four miles (21min 44 2-ssec) and second in one mile. Cyclists were to be added to. the team for the Games.
