Sir, —The City Solicitor states that the | 011I3' reason he knows for. the council's complete change of policy within a few months at great cost to the ratepayers is that through ilncreasing traffic and the continuous though unexpected development of motor traffic the council thought that it was necessary to provide another exit to the south by way of Xaranaki street. It is ridiculous to suggest th.at any development in traffic occurred during the tea months between the council's authority to erect the Levy Estate building and its resolution necessitating its being pulled down. This docs not provide another exit as suggested. I did not ask for any reason which the City Solicitor might know of I asked for the reason. However, as he has absolutely failed to answer a single charge, the matter nwst await the Mayor's return to Wellington. In the meantime the true reason may be found.—l am, etc:, T. W. M'DONALD.
