LOWER HUTT BOROUGH Tho fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Mr. W. T. Strand (Mayor), and Councillors A. M'Bain, W. G. Meldrum, E. Waldio, A. F. Roberts, A. E. Carver, F. Campbell, J. Mitchell, A. Grierson, and A. J. Hobbs. The Secretary of tho Post and Telegraph Department advised that the new post office at tho corner of Eandwick road had been named "Moera," with the understanding that should confusion arise with any other office of similar' name tho matter of adopting a different name- would have to be • considered. The conditions ■of tender for land proposed to b© leased to the Woburn Bowling Club were referred to the Estates Committee. The Bylaws Committee recommended that the request from Moera district for street name plates be granted, and that other streets in the borough bo attended to. The Reserves Committee reported that the three sports bodies using the 'Recreation Ground during the winter had come to an agreement in reference to tho distribution of the proceeds of charge days. The Mayor said the bodies were to be congratulated on their' action. It was decided to allocate ten charge days: Mr. G. Dome was given permission to- fence a road reserve in Norton Park Estate. Pursuant to notice, Councillor Hobbs moved that, in certain instances, where sewer connections were laid in the' streots to the property boundaries, a ±'e.o of only £1 be charged; this not to apply where agreements have already been made with property owners. The motion was seconded by Councillor Carver and. carried. It was decided to draw the atten"tion of the Public Works Department to tho bad state of tho ramped roads in Randwick road and White's line, which have- uot yet been taken over by the council. The Mayor introduced the subject of the planting of a uniform variety of trees in some of the new streets in the borough, and on the motion of Councillor Campbell the question was referred to the Reserves Committee for report. Councillor Grierson, chairman of the, Health Committee, reported that Mr. H. Rostron had been appointed assistant sanitary inspector. The Works Committee recommended the approval of a proposed new subdivision with a street 40 feet wide, widening to 50 feet where it meets Witako street, providing approval could be obtained from the authorities for the laying out of a narrow street; and also; a similar ease in a subdivision off Waiwetu road. The report was adopted.
