PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting o£ the Pctone Borough Council was held last night. There were present the Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenzie), Councillors H. Scholefield, D. M'Carthy, J. Ashby, J. Gumming, V. Jacobson, J. W. Longman, and W. H. Edwards. The Wellington Football Association wrote asking for an entrance gate to the Recreation Ground on KensiDgton avenue, with the'right to charge. On.the motion ■of; Councillor M'Carthy, the matter was held over until the gates on Kensington avenue are completed. The Rugby Union's request that- the council should have the Recreation Ground fences repaired^ sufficiently to keep the public from entering was handed over for the borough engineer's attention. Permission to make a subdivision in the Wilford Settlement with a frontage to Wakefield street was granted, and it was decided to notify the Lower Hutt Borough Council of the decision. The Jackson street widening committee is to wait on the Postmaster-General to decide upon the course of action- to be taken in regard to the Post Office and the widening .of the street. A request from the Petone Central Band for a subsidy was held over for consideration with the estimates. The Petone Sea Scouts were given permission to erect a flagstaff on the beach.
