WINTER WEATHER
OUTLOOK NOT PROMISING' During last night atmospheric pressure rose considerably in the South with the rapid eastward movement of an intense anti-eyclqne. < Yesterday, the latter was centred over Tasmania, but by this morning its centre had moved. to a position south of Stewart Island. Consequent on the' rapid fise'in pressure in the South, southerly winds freshened during last night and brought some heavy showers to places in and south of Cook Strait. The West Coast and Auckland districts of tho North Island have also had scattered showers, but on the east coast of the North Island the weather has remained fair,to fine. The forecast is for moderato to strong south to east winds reaching galo force at places between Kaikoura and East Cape. The weather is likely to be unsettled and showery from Canterbury, northwards, but mainly in districts having an easterly aspect. Heavy falls are probable on parts of the coast. Cold temperatures with frosts inland are anticipated.
