WAR RELIEF
EXECUTIVE MEETING A, meeting of tho Executive Committee of the War. Relief Association Of Wellington was held this morning. Mr. L. O. H. Tripp presided, and there were present Messrs. Alex. Macintosh,! G. Mitchell, .CM. Luke, and the secretary, Mr. A, O. Leach. The reports of the Applications and Emergency Committees and tho Finance Committeo were adopted Since tho executive committee last met 273 applications had been received, comprising 8_ claims from men who had not previously approached the committee, and 189 applications from others who had v doile so. The Emergency Committee dealt with 74 of tho applications .received, 129 claims being disposed of by the Applications , Committee, and 70 applications were still under action. The number of persons who called at the office was 301; of these 197 applied for direct and 104 for indirect assistance. Assistance differing widely in description had been given to partially disabled soldiers, to others who were discharged fit and subsequently developed a war disability, to the widowed mothers and widows of solders who fell iv action, and in many other direations. The Finance Committee reported that it held ono ordinary and three emergency meetings, and in addition to its ordinary function of controlling the financial affairs of ihe association it had' dealt . with six applications for assistance by" way of loans. Of theso two were old and threo were new applications. Tho former were revised in connection with amendments to the original terms of repayment. The amount involved was £350, and the unpaid balances totalled £190. All the new applications wero declined. None of them disclosed war disability, nor were any of the claims caused by or attributable to military servic-. Tho amount applied for was £170. Tho statement of accounts submitted to and approved by the Finance Committee showed an excess of income over expenditure of £46 17s Cd.
