LOWER HUTT COURT.

Messrs G. A. Chapman and J. M. 1 ewer, J.P.s, presided over the fortnightly eitting o£ the Lower. Hutt Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. For exceeding the speed limit, G. Kerehana and C. Bryant were each fined 30a, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. Having their vehicles! insufficiently lighted cost W. H. Jarvis 30s, R. Raymond 20a, H. C. Sayers 20s, E. Chudleigh 30s, I. J. Hill 20s, H. J. Saville 20s, W. A. Sainmons 10s, and G. Pyo Sa. For failure to produce a driver's license H. Kobb was fined 30s, and H. Cameron 10s.

Riding motor-bicycles without efficient silencers cost G-. Kerehana 20s, in default twenty-four days' imprisonment; R. Raymond, 30s; C. Bryant 10s, and 11 Cameron 20s.

Under these circumstances it was considered that the River Board could not legally levy rates on his property. Mr. Bunny held that the defendant should have complained when his property was first included in the River Board's' rateable area, and that the Court had now no jurisdiction over the legality of the board's claim.

Judgment was given for the River Board for the amount claimed.
