MAIN TRUNK BLOCKED
BIG SLIP COMES DOWN
MAY BE CLEARED TO-NIGHT
(By Telegraph.—Press Association ) -m. it • PUKEKOHE, This Day. ihe Mam Trunk railway line threequarters of a mile north of Paerata Junction, 27 miles, south of Auckland, is blocked by a huge slip, which came down about 3 o'clock this morning, and all traffic is held up. Gangs have been organised, and the work of clearing the line was commenced at an early hour. Trains with gangs were hurried from Auckland and Huntly. _ A big quantity of earth fell, and it is estimated that the line will not be clear till late to-night. The Northbound Main Trunk expresses were held up at Paerata, but arrangements were made for transhipping the passengers, mails, and luggage by relief trains from the North.
A small slip occurred in this deep cutting last year. The country in this locality gave trouble for some years, and this is the fourth or fifth landslide since the route of the permanent ■way was altered to improve the grade.
