CROSSING SMASH
EXPRESS AND CAR COLLIDE

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Another tragic level crossing accident occurred yesterday afternoon, when a motor-car containing Messrs. Frank Walsh arid Thomas Power, both of'Takapau, collided with the Napier-bound express at the Ruataniwha crossing, on the Wellington side of Waipukurau.Mr. Walsh was killed outright, and Mr. Power is suffering from broken' ribs and shock. The car was smashed. The deceased was a married man without children. Ho farmed a soldier's section at Marakeke. The crossing is a very bad one, and repeated efforts have been made to get the Department to take steps to climate the danger, without avail. An inquest was opened this morning for identification purposes, and was adjourned until 3rd August. ■
