HOCKEY

TEAM FOR AUCKLAND

PLAYERS NOT AVAILABLE

A special meeting of the Wellington Hockey Association was held last night, Mr. K. Hardio Boys presiding, to discuss the difficulty that had arisen in securing a team to send to the tournament at Auckland.

When, nominations were called for originally, 16 were'sent in, out of which the team was chosen. Only five of this number now state that they are able to mako the trip. Two more players have been secured, bringing the total up to seven, but considerable difficulty is being experienced in obtaining enough players to fill the other vacancies.

One of the members suggested that the entry into the tournament be withdrawn, but it was pointed out that this default would mean the cancellation of the tournament. Yet another member said that it would be better not to send a team than to send an inadequate one. The majority felt, however, that there is every likelihood of the required number of players Doing secured.

After further discussion it was decided that, tinlcßS an emergency committee can find a suitable team by this morning, Wellington should withdraw its shield team.
