MEN ON RESERVES
/.Twenty-four- returned soldiers were started by: the Director of Reserves (Mr, J. G. Mackenzie) this morning on -the levelling of the sandhills at Rongbtai; and on. NairnviJle Park at Khandallah, a-dozen men being absorb-ed-.on each work.
Both tlieae works have a bearing on the number- of sports grounds in and around "Wellington. ■ It is extremely, unlikely that: the supply will ever catch up with the demand, and for that reason any increases in playing areas are welcome. Nairnville. .Park was bought some'tn-b.years ago by the City Council from fhe Nairn family at a price in thY .vicinity', of: £3000. Its area is about 12 acres.: The present is the first fyimMtkm staked pii the w«rrk,.-vrHeh,
when completed, will be of the greatest value to the. boys of Khandallah, as their nearest sports ground at present is Anderson Park. Provision has been made in Nairnville Park for two full-sized football grounds. . . _ The work at. Bongotai will also in time provide more playing areas. An area has also been cleared above the spring in Grant road, the. shrubs having been removed, as the commencement of another play area. This is the second of. the; areas under Mr. Shirtcliff v's scheme. .
