KAIAPOI ELECTORATE

CHANGE OF NAME SUGGESTED (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHBISTCHUECH, This Day. lii view of 'the very extensive, alterations in the Kaiapoi electoral district recommended by the Boundaries Commission, a resident of the district made the suggestion to a reporter yesterday that it should in. future be known as tho Waimakariri electorate. "If the recommendations of tho Commission are carried out," he stated, "tho present electorate will be altered very considerably, and it Eoems to me that it will no longer be fair that it should bo known as Kaiapoi. The proposed new boundaries include about half of New Brighton, which was formerly in the Avon electorate, and also the whole of Yaldhurst, "West Melton, Templeton, and the Islington ridings of tho Paparua County and a portion of the Papanui riding of Waimairi County, which formerly were in the Biccarton electorate. The whole of the Bangiora County, together with the Bangiora Borough, is taken out, and is included in the Hurunui electorate. "Under these conditions the Kaiapoi Borough will cease to be the centre of the electorate, and will in fact be only a small area in one corner, iyith practically no community of interest with many o$ the newl--added parts. Tho Waimakariri Biver runs through a good portion of the proposed new electorate, and if the name Waimakariri were adopted in lieu of Kaiapoi, the residents of New Brighton and Paparua would probably not feel so aggrieved at being included in another electorate."
