(By Telogrnph.—Pre39 Association.t AUCKLAND, 14th March. In a ten-round bout at the Town Hall to-night for a purHe of £200, Billy Grime (Australian champion), Ost lib, defeated Reg. Trowern (Auckland), Ost 111b, the referee stopping the fight in the ninth round to save Trowern from heavy punishment. Grime gave a brilliant but one-sided display, and in the eighth round only the gong saved Trowern from a knock out. Trowern showed great pluck, but was no match for the Australian, who was reluctant to punish his opponent. In the ninth he was cheered for his sportsmanship. Grime leaves for America to-morrow. The attendance was a record, over 4000 people being present, while many others were unable to gain admittance. It is announced that Charlie Purely (Auckland) would leave for England shortly to engage in further contests.
