Councillor Spearman,. in seconding the motion, asserted: "I consider the public buildings in the - borough of Upper Hutt are nearly all insanitary. Someone should be appointed to inspect the premises before licenses are issued. The Mayor (Mr. A. J. M'Curdy): "X don't know whether you're aiming at me" —(voices: "Oh, no") —but I want to say that my two halis have been passed on every occasion. Everything that the .Health Department has asked for has been vdone. I" own the only halls in New Zealand with electric ventilation, electric heating, and electric fans." . . Councillor Greig: "I would like to ask the Mayor if he calls the sanitary conveniences in the Independent Hall sufficient?" ;■■ The Mayor: "Yes." .
