BAND CONTEST.

The most important band contest ever held in the Dominion commences in Wellington on the 21st inst., and concludes with a grand military quickstep competition at Athletic £ark on Saturday, the 26th inst. The entries "number 36 bands, 420 soloists, 40 quartettes, and 24 trios, which, easily constitutes a record for the Dominion. Elaborate preparations are being made to ensure the success of the contest. Following on the lines of the 1922 contest, the visiting bandsmen will be accorded a reception at the Basin Reserve. After being formally welcomed to the city, 'n selected .programme of music will be rendered by visiting bands, who will be. the guests; of the committee at afternoon tea. The public may look-for-ward to a week of stirring music by the cream of -New Zealand bands.
