CORSE FIRE AT PETONE
A gorse fire on the Horokiwi hills this morning caused some uneasiness to the Petone Woollen Mill authorities. It commenced on the hillsides well to the south' of the mill, and worked rapidly over a spur against the wind, until it was immediately over the mill building. At this stage, however, want of fuel prevented it travelling further, in this direction, and it died out. The mill authorities started another -fire lower down, and it spread rapidly along the hill behind the mill. An 11,000-volt power line passes over the hill at that point, but.it was not damaged, as the poles are of steel. Two leads of hose were run out from the mill, and this was sufficient to keep the fire from getting too close to the buildings. The Petone Borough engine was prepared, and the Petone Fire Brigade was ready to turn out.
