BAND CONTEST
MUSIC FOR WELLINGTON.
The Now Zealand championship band contest to be held in Wellington from 21st to 26th March, will, it is stated, ba the most important contest ever held in New Zealand. Thirty-six bands from all parts of the Dominion have entered and record entries have been received for the solo, quartet, and trio contests. Considerable importance attaches to the appointment of Mr. W. Halliwell, of Wigan, •lingland, as chief adjudicator. Mr. Halliwell has for years been looked upon as. tue leading conductor and adjudicator ia Jingland, and his criticisms and advice should be most helpful to New Zealand bands. Contests for A and B grade bands will be held, and on Saturday, 26th February, a great military quickstep competition will be held at Athletic Park. Tha march for the A grade bands is "WairaVap^'r composition specially arranged by Mr. C. Trussell, of Queensland, and at one time resident of Waihi, New Zealand. Xhe work of housing between seven and eight hundred bandsmen is now in the hands of a special committee. Season tickets will be available.
