ORCHARDS DAMAGED
HAIL STORM IN HAWKES BAY.
(By Telegraph.—Press 'Association.)
HASTINGS, This Day.
A hail storm yesterday swept a belt one to two miles wide, from the northern suburb of Hastings to the sea, doing considerable damage .to apple,' pear, . and other fruit trees, and to vegetable gardens. Although some individual orchards have suffered severely, the experts consider that the fruit bruised would have had to be thinned , off in any case, and as. the largest areas■■: here were untouched by the storm the damage done will not seriously affect the local crop.
