SHOW GROUND EVENTS
CANCELLED

(Special to "The Eveninn Post.")
CHBISTCHUBCH, This Day.
The heavy rain that spoiled the races and the1 Show, yesterday continued in the evening. Mud, inches deep, a gloomy and empty oval, and the halfhearted cries of the showmen trying to "catch up" on their takings, made a depressing spectacle at the Show Grounds last night, when, with any sort of luck in the matter of weather, the carnival would have been in full swing. ' * •■ After tea all the competitors had been drawn up ready for the evening events in the arena, which included pony racing, whippet racing, and games, but an inspection of,.the ground soon convincdd the committee that the entertainment wag out of the question. Owing to the losses suffered by the showmen, the A. and P. Society decided to grant them free use of the ground to-day and to-night. . . . This morning there were very heavy shoi.ers, alternating with sunßhine, and the prospects for the last day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting are discouraging. '•■■■' ■'
