PfiKIN, 25th August.
The Cantonese have -aptured Yo« chow and advanced considerably towards Wuchang.
Anxiety has been aroused by the reported capture of Yochow, If it is true, the position of Hankow is thereby; menaced.
Meanwhile the general confusion of the situation in China is increased by the procedure of the Chinese authorities at Tsingtao, who are arbitrarily taxing foreign imports, which have already paid Customs duty. So far the taxes have been confined to wines, spirits, and beer. Importers have lodged a strong protest with the British' American, and Japanese Consul* against the illegal procedure. The protest has been forwarded to the Legations.
