The New Zealand amateur boxing championships opened in the 'Municipal Theatre to-night. The preliminary bouts resulted aa follow:—
Welter.—F. Urwin (Wellington) beat F. Gordon (Napier); James Smith (Taumariinui) beat R. Ropsch (Hastings); J Kelson (Greymouth) beat A. Wallace (Timaru). Light-weight.—H. Kilnoly (Otago) beat A. karten (Wanganui); J. Smith (Tauraarunui) b^at It. Fulcher (North Otago;, H. MiissorT (Hastings) won by default from AY. Slattery (Tauniarimui); E. Morgan (Wellington) beat E. Livingstone (Dauneyirkel; L. Phillips (Hastings) beat E. Wilson (Wairoa); C. Broadfoot (Auckland) beat W. Robertson (Gisborne); H. Kilnoly (Otago) beat J. Smith (Taumanmui); W. Carey (Christchurch) beat T. Williams (Napier).
Featherweight.—V, Jones (Southland) won by default from N. Kieley (Greymouth) ; J. Franklin (Gisborne) won by default from F. Richardson (Hastings); K. Forward (Wanganui) won by default from J. Crowley (Napier); F. Keith (Wellington) won by default from A. Seastrand (Napier); T. Donovan (New Plymouth) beat G. Smith (Auckland); G. Adams (Wellington) won by default from C. Lane (Hastings); J. Leckie (Ota^o) won by default from A. Wilmott (Hastings). Bantam. —H. Lavsen (Wellington) knocked out H. V. Spobner (Hastings). Fly-weight.—F. Pearcey (Napier.) beat (J. Hurne (Wellington). ' Light-Heavy.—A. Hawse (Westport,) beat D. Criehton (Napier); E. Downes (Manawatu) beat L. Gee (Bay of Plenty). _ NAPIER, This Day.
