The | Marylebone committee severely censured the head groundsman and two of his assistants, the former Tjecause he ordered the hose to be placed across the pitch on Sunday afternoon instead of waiting till Monday inornii'g, and the others because they did not mstke sure that the turncock was closed after testing' the pipes for leakages. The report from Scotland Yard showed that the head groundsman wished to water another pitch for the match following the Test, and instructed his assistants to test the hoses, on Sunday against leakages in preparation for Monday's watering. . The assistants complied. They admitted that they failed to examine the eiTB of the hose to .ascertain whether the water was cut off.
