SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS
WELLINGTON OB NEW PLY-
MOUTH?
(By Telegraph.) - (Special to the "Evening Post.")
CHRISTCHURCH, 2nd July. The Dominion Council of the Lifesaving Society had before it last night a request from tho Taranaki Centre to reconsider the allocation of surf and life saving championships next season. The secretary explained that the championships had originally been allotted to Auckland, but the centre there reported that it could not conduct them as there were no surf beaches near the city. It was then suggested that the events should be held at either Wellington or New Plymouth. The Wellington Centre had expressed itself as quite agreeable to the fixture going to New Plymouth. However, when the Taranaki Centre was communicated with on the matter, it did not reply, and the council therefore allotted the championships to Wellington. Last night Mr. Ballin, representing Taranaki, offered a. motion allotting the championships to New Plymouth, but the chairman refused to accept the motion, stating that the previous motion allotting the championships to Wellington would first have to be rescinded. Finally, a motion was adopted stating that the council had no objection to the championships being trans-' ferred to New Plymouth if the Wellington Centre agreed to that course.
