SUMATRA EARTHQUAKE
TERRIBLE SCENES OF DKTBESS.
(Rei^ter'i Telegram.) (Received 2nd July, 2 p.m.) WELTEVREDEN (Java), Ist July. Many houses collapsed in the town of Padangpandjang during the recent earthquake. Terrible scenes of distress ■were •witnessed. A train leaving the station was buried under the collapse of the building. It is at present estimated that 200 are dead and many injured. This does not include other stricken places, where flw search of the ruins is proceeding.
