TRADE WITHIN EMPIRE.

The Hawera Winter Show was opened this afternoon by the Hon. G. J. Anderson. The entries in the various classes arc large and competition is keen. A feature is the display of goods for farming and household purposes, the British Manufacturers Agents' Association forming a prominent party associated with the show. A special effort is being made this week for trade within the Empire, and this is the predominant note. Special addresses emphasising the need for. trading within the Empire were delivered last ingThe Hon. G. J. Anderson remarked that in the near future New Zealand was going to have strong competition^ and he considered that steps would have to be taken to reduce costs. He hoped in the future to spend large sums for publicity purposes. Other speakers were Mr. R. Darroch (Navy League), Mr. L. B. Beale (British Trade Commissioner), and Mr. L. A. Edwards (representing the New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers' Agents.) Another feature of the show is the inauguration of a school children 's Empire reciprocal publicity scheme iv connection with which visits of large numbers of school children from the Wanganui and Taranaki districts have been arranged.
