VARSITY OUTPLAY HUTT.
'Varsity had little difficulty 'in defeating Hutt at the Hutt Recreation Ground by the big margin of 31 points to 3. The Collegians were without tho services ot Malfroy and 'Walpolc, but, nevertheess, their play was much superior to that o£ the Hutt men. For a time after the kickoff Hutt set up a strong attack, but 'Varsity gradually asserted their superiority, and towards the end of the game had matters practically their own way. Play
on the whole wag somewhat ragged, but in the second half the 'Varsity rearguard wore seen in some fine passing rushes. Soon after the start 'Varsity were penalised and Balks landed a good goal for Hutt. Hutt 3, 'Varsity 0. A knock-on spoilt a promising 'Varsity movement, but later O'Eegan kicked a fine penalty goal. Hutt 3, 'Varsity 3. Hutt continued to attack and severely tested the 'Varsity defence. Towards the end of the spell the 'Varsity forwards got moving, and M'Kenzie and Burns scored in quick succession. O'Kegan converted both tries. 'Varsity 13, Hutt 3. Early in the second half Pope scored for 'Varsity. O'Regan failed with the kick. The 'Varsity backs swept through the opposition in a series of fine passing rushes. A. fine sprint down' the line by M'Kay, 'Varsity's., rightwinger, brought play into the Hutt twen-ty-five, and O'Regan crossed the line to score. His kick at goal was unsuccessful. 'Varsity 19, Hutt 3. 'Varsity kept up the pressure and before, time was called Pope, South, and Martin-Smith scored further tries, all of which were converted by Love, making' the final score read: 'Varsity 34, Hutt 3. Mr. A. Pilcher was the referee.
