The biggest Republican demonstration ever seen in the Rhineland occurred at Cologne on the occasion of the celebrations of the release of the Cologne zone from foreign occupation. All buildings were beflagged. Processions bearing banners paraded the streets, which were crowded with visitors. A guard of honour srorted President Hindenburg to Government House, where the municipality entertained him at a banquet.
