Recent catches near Russell include the following: Mr. Zano Grey, swordfish, 2301b; Capttin Mitchell, swordfish, 2991b;,Mr. _W, Lambo (Sydney), swordfish, 2101b; Mrs. Bparrow (England), swordfish, 2701b; Mr. G. A. Buddie (Auckland), mako shark, 2471b. When asked what he thought of the fishing in the Bay of Islands, Mr. Grey said: "You have here a wonderful fishing ground, and I hope to catch a fish weighing anything up to 10001b." Captain Mitchell and Mr. Grey fish only, with a single hook. Among fishing visitors at Russell are Colonel and Mrs. Dunville and Major Corbett, of Ireland; Colonel and Mrs. Sparrow, of Essex, England; and Mr. T. B, Hubbaek, Malay States. Mr. M. B. Kellum, a wealthy American, who is visiting New Zealand in his private yacht Kaimiloa, will arrive at Russell on 18th February for ten days' fishing. He has three swordflshing launches of his own, and has chartered another one at Bossell.

Fifty-eight big game fish have already been taken by anglers at the Bay of Islands this season. At the corresponding data last year only seven fish had been caught, showing either that the season has opened earlier or that there are more fish on the grounds.
