BETTING RESTRICTIONS

tO TBl IWTOa.

Sir,— l quite agree with you regarding the absurd position of the law respecting the publication of dividends. In my opinion the restrictions upon betting are the means of driviug thousands to bet with the bookies. Might I stipeest un easy way to wipe out the bookmaker and. send along; a big lot of taxation to the Government? I would allow all secretaries of racing clubs to act as agents for any other club that was holding a meeting at some other town; they could receive money up till, say, one hour before the time of closing, the tote and send it by urgent wire to the club holding the meeting. If they were allowed to open ax double machine the book-, maker would" fade right out—an end greatly to be desired.—l am, etc.,
