PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

AT HERETAUNGA

A HEAVY COURSE,

Tho provincial ladies' golf championships were commenced at Heretaunga today in a keen southerly, showers alternating with sunshine. The course was a litlo heavy, owing to the slush.of grass and, at the long holes, this piled up tho ladies' scores.

There were 48 entrants in the qualifying' round of the championship, and many more competed in the bogey contest and teams' match. Bogey for the conrse is 77, and excellent cards were returned by the following :—Miss Jervis (Hutt) 80 (553435564—40, 454543456— 40); Miss Watson (Palmerston North) 82 (643435685—44, 455633435—38); Mrs. Guy Williams (Masterton) 85, 44 out, with a 7 in it, and 41 back.
