AN EXCITING TIME
PERILOUS TRIP IN A LAUNCH
A LEGISLATOR'S EXPERIENCE.
(HI TEIEOnAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
HAMILTON, This Day
On Saturday the Hon. R. F. Bollard had an exciting experience from Tualcau. Ho set off for Port Waikato in Mr. Walter Divens' launch. Heavy rain was falling, the wind on tho river was blowing to a gale, and the tide was flowing in at a terrific speed. Off Maiora Bay the little craft struck'exceedingly heavy weather. She nearly stood on cud, providing involuntary baths for tho passengers. The speed for an hour was little, and the launch was a perfect switchback railway. ,
The unonviablo experience was heightened when the launch stuck on a shoal, and there for a brief space she was lashed by waves romping in from the Heads. At length the splendid seamanship of Mr. Diven prevailed, and tho launch floated off: the shoal and again tackled her journey. Until tho launch reached tho jetty she was heavily buffeted, and berthing was accomplished only by deft handling. .-.'•.
, Mr. Bollard, "speaking of the experience of the party, paid a high tribute to tho scamanshnp of Mr. Diven, who had worked wonders with the launch in heavy weather.
