SURVEYS FROM THE AIR
A question iras asked of tlic At fonicy-Cieneral by the Hon. Or. M Thomson in the Legislative Council yesterday, afternoon as to whether
the Government has taken into consideration the practicability of obtaining by an aeroplane photographic survey more economically and rapidly than by any other method, a series of topographical maps on which.geological surveys and forest surveys may be based, as well as surveys of railway lines over for-est-covered country.
Sir Francis Bell replied that the question of topographical surveys both from the air and from the ground was being investigated. Up to the present the high initial cost did not warrant the inauguration of an aerial survey, particularly as the hilly nature of the country did not allow of sufficient accuracy being obtained with tho methods and instruments used in other countries.
