NEW PLYMOUTH, 25th May. At the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Alpers, Alfred Steveiis was sentenced to four months' hard labour for obtaining board and lodging by false pretences. Peter Dignam, Michael Fallon, and James Connolly, three firemen from tiie steamer Iluriinui, were ac quitted on a charge of breaking and entering a stationer's shop. They pleaded guilty to the theft of goods, valued at £101 ss, and were sentenced to six days' imprisonment, which meant they were released immediately.
