RAPID SUBSIDENCE
FLOOD WATERS AT WHAKATANE.
AVHAKATANE, This Day. The flood waters have subsided rapidly. Only the Whakatano overflowed, while the Tarawcra and Rangitaiki Rivers were unaffected, although the latter river ran bank-high for some hours, but carried off the surplus waters most efficiently. This morning hardly any trace of flooding can bo seen. The road to Opotiki again is high and dry, and the through service has been resumed. Practically no stock was lost, as the animals were shifted to higher ground in time.
The. service from Rotorua was not interrupted.
