RAGING TEMPEST IN BAY OF
PLENTY.
'AUCKLAND, This Day. The Awahou arrived from the East Coast bays on Saturday night. She hove-to in the Bay of Plenty for six hours in a raging tempest, walls of water threatening to engulf her. Heavy seas broke abroad and lifted a heavy wooden derrick from the chocks and badly bent the starboard bulwarks. Much' water entered the stokehold, the firSmen working in a foot of water. Apart from this the Awahou came through the ordeal safely.
