SAWMILLERS LEAVE THEIR HOMES
GISBORNE, This Day. The big flood in - the Motu River washed away the tramlines at the sawmills at Motuhora and the footbridges on the river nearby. The sawmillers had to leave their homes, and made for tho railway station. On Friday night a wash-out occurred on tho Waioeka road. The damage is estimated at £500. About ten chains of the Moanui road were washed out on the East Coast, near Ruatorea. A temporary staging at Eotokautuku bridge and two derricks were washed away.
T-ho slip on the railway to Motuhora necessitated the passengers spending the night in the train..
