DISAPPOINTED CROWDS

SYDNEY RUMOUR GROUNDLESS,

(Received 25tli May, 9 a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day. A much trumpeted and equally strenuously denied rumour that one p.arty was engineering a repetition of the incident of the burning of the Union Jack, which caused such a stir some years ago, in order to bring discredit on the opposing party, drew an immense crowd to the Domain to-day. Duo police precautions were taken', but beyond much vocal demonstration and flag-flapping at various platforms, and an occasional bit of horseplay, nothing happened.

Empire Day was celebrated with the usual functions, including special references in the churches.
