Britain must increasa her markets in tho "United .Stales if she is to meet her indebtedness to the American 'Government and maintain her position as America's principal purchaser, tho British Ambassador, fcjir Esme- Howard, told members of tho Iron and Steel Institute. Sir Esmo added that unless England's unfavourable trade balance with tho United States was greatly reduced they would have to buy elsewhere. (Although tho United States and Britain were each other's best customers, Britain's imports wero twice as much from America as sheexported to the United States. He asserted that tho equalisation of British imports and exports would tend to restore the normal ilow of the world's commerceand bs a great step towards the return of the world to normal.
