WAKATU DEFEAT WELLINGTON.
Although Newtown Park was very heavy for the Wellington-Wakatu fixture, play was very fast throughout. Wellington pressed for the first few minutes, but Wakatu then took the ball down-field and were unfortunate on several occasions in not scoring, mainly through the brilliant work of Guy, the Wellington 'keeper. Martis and Ashwin, the Wellington full-backs, were kept busy for some time replying to the onslaughts of the Wakatu forwards. After some give-and-take play, Wellington again pressed, and Jacobsen was unlucky in sending the ball over the net. Wakatu responded with a hot attack, from which Stephenson and Stratton peppered the Wellington goal without success. Half-time came with no score. Wakatu made the pace on resuming, and finally a good ball from Louis, who was playing well in left-half position, enabled W. Hood to score. Wellington failed in their counter-at-tack, and another rush by their opponents resulted in MacMillan scoring Watecln 2, Wellington 0. There was no further scoro, Mr. B. Lloyd was referee.
