FRENCH CLUB
-The. fortnightly meeting of tho Cerclc Francais was held on Wednesday night in the Pioneer Club Hull. There was again a largo attendance of members. The programme (arranged by Miss L. van Staveren) opened with a "piano solo by. Miss Joseph, who responded to an encore. Miss Garshook's song, "li'Ete," was enthusiastically -received, and she acknowledged this with an Italian number. Other Italian songs were contributed by Miss Stanton, whose singujg was also warmly appreciated. Mrs. K. Isaacs earned very hearty applause with "Ou Voulez-vous Aller," giving "Ouvre tes Geux Bleus" in answer to an imperative, encore. Tho latter portion of the evening was filled by a debate on the question, "Est-il Convenable quo ■ leg Femmcs fument ?" The subject was well presented by Miss L: van Staveren in an animated address. Following her, Professor E. J. Boyd-Wilson handled the question amusingly, and afterwards various members spoke on the subject. The entertainment concluded witli a hearty vote of thanks to Miss van Staveren, and those who had assisted her.
