DIVORCE ACTION

DEFENCE A COMPLETE DENIAL.

The hearing of the, divorce action brought by AVilliam George Chandler against his wife, Nellie Ivy Chandler, James Leach being cited as co-respond-ent, was continued before the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) and a jury of twelve at the Supreme Court this morning. There was a claim for £300 damages made against co-respondent. Throughout yesterday five witnesses, including a police sergeant, gave evidence as to conversations, and as to seeing respondent and co-respondent leaving together on motor rides, terminating in stoppages at Happy Valley or Kaiwarra, and as to visits of respondent to co-re-spondent's rooms above his garage in Adelaide- road.

To-day the defence was commenced. This consisted of an absolute denial of all the allegations, and the calling of evidence to show that Leach', on occasions when he was supposed to be out with Mrs. Chandler, was in reality engaged on work connected with his business. Mr. Leicester described the story of petitioner as a pure concoction.
