Mr. W. T. Strand, Mayor of • Lower Hutt, returned to Wellington from Sydney to-day. j ' The Rev. E. S. Emmitt, the new, superintendent of the Kilbirnie Methodist circuit,, arrived to-day from England by the Moeraki. The Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) has been appointed a member of the Hutt Valley Railway Committee.

Mr. and Mrs. E. T.. Taylor and daughter are leaving Wellington by. the Ruahine oil; Thursday for a trip round the world. They will be absent from £>ew Zealand for about twelve months.

The Rev. Father John Seymour, S.M., who, for tho past three years, has been assistant priest at St. Mary's, Manchester street, Christchurch, has been transferred to IJapier, and leaves next week to take up his new duties. Father Malony, S.M., will fill the vacancy at St. Mary's.

Councillor W. J. Thompson was yesterday afternoon reappointed as chairman of the Reserves Committee of the City Council.:

Martin, honorary treasurer of the Wellington Cricket Association, who, ivith his wife, is leaving on a trip to England, On behalf of the cricketers of Wellington, Mr. M. 1\ Luckie presented Mr. Martin with a, case of pipes, and in doing so referred to the valuable services yrhich the recipient of the token of esteem had rendered to the local association. The wish of all was that Mr. and Mrs. Martin would have a pleasant trip and a safe return. Messrs. C. G-. Wilson' (chairman of the Cricket Association) and W. E. Bethune also spoke of Mr. Martin's good work. Mr. Wilson pointing out that during the time Mr. Martin had carried out the duties of treasurer the' financial position of the association had' Been improved from a big debit to a credit balance of over £1000. < i ■
