BAROMETER STILL HIGH

The barometer is still high all over the Dominion, but has shown a decreasing* tendency since yesterday, and easterly winds have changed to northerlies. The surprise in the report has been the fact of a heavy downpour of rain at Hokitika, where 14.68 inches were recorded. At Arthur's Pass, .95 inches • were registered, 2.25 inches at Greymouth, and 1.2 inches, at West-' pbrt. No other rain lias been reported. According to the Dominion Meteorologist, Mr. D. C. Bates, the barometer is due to .fall everywhere, moderate to stron"easterly winds prevailing, a.nd backing to nortlierlies, north: of New Plymouth and Napier, northerlies prevailing -and increasing elsewhere. Further rain is probable on the West' Coast of the South Island, and increasing clouds and haziness are likely to precede a change in the course of. two or three days. ' B
