PARENTS' .COMMITTEE; MEETS.
I The first meeting of the newly-elected committee of the Wellington Girls' College Parents- Association was held at LUe college-on Wednesday evening. Col. ouel G. Mitchell occupied the chair, and there were present-: Messrs. Sol. H Myers, R. W. De Montalk. E. Tait, J. H. Whittaker, G. Stanley Chisholm, H: W. Tolan, E. T. W.. Maelaurin. Mesdames K. -5. Clark, S., H. Myers, K. 11. Stewart, J. Howe, and .the hon. secretary. Miss M'Lean," principal of. the '•ollege, was also in attendance; ■" - After transacting formal business;' the meeting considered with considerable enthusiasm what the. association shojild do during the present year to" assist the school. Satisfaction was expressed with the commencement of building operations on the site of the new college,'and it was hoped that,the formal ceremony of laying, the foundation-stone would take place shortly. ' ■ • ' A report was received from the Forestry Department recommending:a course c»E action to be taken in planting the area. It was decided to ask the Department to reserve a sufficient number of trees for the'purpose, and when the. area had been defined a start will1 be made with the planting during the coming season. . - ', '. The question of improving an old dwelling which has recently been" taken into the grounds of the present college was also considered. Several suggestions were made whereby, the building could, with slight alterations, be made sn. attractive sports pavilion, and a play centre for the pupils on wet days. The meeting decided to undertake the work ii the Department will assist by a subsidy. , ..-■ ■...;.. The question of improving the school library, and engaging the "services of a qualified _ librarian was also considered, and, while the meeting recognised the necessity and supported the suggestion, it was considered that the matter was one which should be dealt with by the Board of" Governors or the Department:
