ANTI-RACIAL CAMPAIGN
ACTIVITY IN NEW YORK,
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRIGHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
NEW YORK, 4th April. , The Ku Klux Klan, whose activities recently' had-begun to diminish, especially in the Eastern States, have again intensified their anti-racial campaign, particularly in the metropolitan, area of New York. Jtlyriads of flaming crosses are erected each night,, and robed Klansmen are holding meetings in secluded spots. One suburban community is torn by-bitter dissensions, the Klan having requested the resignation of a priest, who is a member of the board of directors of a'bank, and otherwise threaten to. disrupt it. ■ The Klan's activities have been extended even to Columbia. University, America's largest collegiate institution/ where the Southern students signed a protest requesting the ousting of a negro resident in one of the dormitories. The \ authorities decided that the negro was* within his rights. The Klan in the meantime invaded the college campus, erected a flaming cross, and bombarded the negro with threatening letters. The student body is now divided, many members defending the. negro, while a squad of detectives guards his dormitory against possible violence. The incident has aroused popular interest, and excitement reigns. ' ' . " .' '
