A MATRON'S RESIGNATION
DANNEVIRKE HOSPITAL MATTER.
(BY TELEGRAM PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
- DANNEVTRKE, This Day. ; As the. outcome of a meeting, in committee, the Waipawa Hospital Board recently decided to'request Miss Hopper, matron of .the .Dannevirke Hospital for the past 15 years, to forward her resignation, which sue did on certain conditions, .liie. board accepted the resignation, but not the conditions stipulated, and decided to give the matron six months' leave' oi-absenee on pay, and a pension of £62 per annum. The action of the board has occasioned much public comment, it being contended by. many. that. Miss Hopper had not received: ordinary British fair, play, in.that no complaint was made against her either in her ■ professional or private capacity, the only apparent reason . ; being that she was unpopular with th man-in-the-street, and Jthat patients' were going from' Dannevirke to Waipukurau Hospital, for-which her supporters claimed she was not responsible. ■ Ihe Dannevirke branch of. the Labour Paiiy. championed the matron's i case, and a-public meeting under its auspices last night decided to appoint a deputation to' wait/upon the next meeting of the Hospital, Board asking it to show cause' why its decision should not' be.-rescinded. In the event of. the,, board's action being justified, the board is to be asked to adequately provide for Miss' Hopper's future by a' suitable allowance. It was stated that if no satisfactioni was received from the board the Labour Party would brin" the;matter before Parliament. V': "
