TO HONOUR THE FLEET
BUILDINGS TO BE ILLUMINATED
OUTLINE OF THE ARRANGE .'• • . ' ■ MENTS.
There is every indication that' Wellington will make a brave showing during the visit of- the British special service fleet. Arrangements are well in hand for the decoration and illumination Of various buildings in the city, and i£ favourable weather conditions prevail the men of the Navy should secure a good impression of the Capitall.; . The .'Mayor o£ Wellington (Mr.'-R A: Wright,-ALP.), told a "Post" reporter. : to-day that negotiations had been proceeding, between the Entertainment Committee arid business people, and up to the present there had been' a very satisfactory. response on the part of.the latter. He was able to definitely announce that Cuba street and Courtenay place would be suitably decorated for the' occasion, and leach evening the various buildings would be, illuminated. Business people in the other main streets were also being approached, and there < was every probability that they would fall into line with' the arrangements made for Cuba street and Courtenay place. 'Arrangements had been made to, have the Town Hall illuminated , each evening during the stay -of-the fleet, and he also' understood that something similar would ■be/done on other public buildings in the city. Altogether the arrangements that had been made, and those that were now in train, should result in a very fine showing, which would do justice to such an important occasion "in the history of (the'city. The manner in which business people had responded to the'request to play their part in illuminating the city and carrying out the.scheme of decorations was a source of: gratification Although no definite decision' has been .reached, it is unlikely that there will be any. holiday declared during the visit of the' fleet. ■ : .
