The president, Mr. D. E. Leslie, presided over the fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which'was held on Monday. It was . stated that numerous cases of cruelty and neglect had come under thenotice of the inspector since the previous meeting, and the report submitted showed that in all cases steps had been taken to stop the cruelty. It had been found necessary to 'take proceedings against one offender for cruelty'to a bull and a heifer, and he was fined £10 and costs. Subscriptions and donations amounting to £13 12s 6d were acknowledged and these included £2 2s from Mr. R F. Carvosso, and £1 Is each from Mrs. Hornig, Messrs. J. p. Gray, Findlay, Hoggard, and Morrison, Wellington Meat Export Co., and £1 each' from- Mrs. Price and H. Ellicock.
